How Bad Bunny Ranch Ltd Got Its Name

Everyone has been asking, so here it is, the story of how Bad Bunny Ranch Ltd got its name

When we first moved to the ranch it was too late to get any large-scale growing started, the fields needed work, and the greenhouse was not erected yet.  Teri and I just could not imagine going a full season without growing anything, so we put up a 12-foot by 12-foot chain link cage that was 6 feet tall to keep the deer and bear out of it in our south field, enough space for a little garden and to keep our hands in dirt.

Well just when everything was growing in the garden Teri one day walked outside and called out to me “there is a snake on the fence”.  I was like what a snake on the fence?  So, I ran outside with no phone in hand to see what she was talking about and yep there it was a red racer snake about 5 feet long on the chain link fence diagonally, not weaved through the chain link, but just on the fence hanging.

Now you know how some people tend to have run in with certain animals like birds or dogs, for me it is snakes.  I have traveled the world while in the United States Marine Corps and have had my fair share of run-ins with snakes, but never one just on a fence.  I have seen them in trees, on top of equipment, in our house (yikes a whole other story), but never on a fence.  So, I say let me go get my phone to take a picture.

I get my phone and come back outside and as I am walking, I hear the fence rattling (no pun intended) and what do we see but a nice innocent brown and white fluffy bunny jumping up and yanking the snake off the fence.  After a couple attempts the bunny gets the snake off the fence and the snake jets off, but the bunny was not going to just let it get away so it chased it for about 100 yards biting and jumping on it the whole way, the snake could not get away fast enough.  We were so taken aback that I did not remember I had the phone in my hand, so I didn’t get any pictures or videos of it.  After about 100 yards, the bunny stops, turns around and runs back to the garden.  At the same time Teri and I look at each other and we both say, “that is one bad a** bunny”, which cemented the ranch's name as the Bad Bunny Ranch Ltd.

Later we learned that more than likely the snake got too close to the bunny’s den, and it was a mama bunny protecting its young.  As a tribute to the heroic bunny, we left the garden gate open for the mama and her young to eat as much as they wanted and we now plant extra crops specifically for the bunnies on the ranch.  Our little bad a** bunny protectors.
